In 2021, we purchased the campground formerly known as Wheeler’s Campground and renamed it Skillet Creek Campground. We, Chris and Lea Ann Gieck, had been seasonal campers here for nine years before purchasing this beautiful property in April 2021. We chose the name to honor the property’s history, as the campground was originally known as Skillet Creek Camping Resort.
The campground sits on 70 acres of wooded and green space with Skillet Creek running through the property, along with a fishing pond and wooded hiking trails. Since purchasing the campground, we’ve worked to preserve its natural beauty while adding amenities and activities for families to enjoy.
In recent years we’ve added a one-acre swimming pond, expanded lodging with rental cabins and additional full hook-up sites, and built the Skillet Creek Canteen near the swim pond, which includes a pavilion space, concession area, and additional bathrooms.
Our goal is to continue improving the campground while maintaining the natural setting that makes this property special. We hope Skillet Creek Campground is a place where families can relax, enjoy the outdoors, and make lasting memories together.

Beyond the campground, we absolutely love the Baraboo area because there is so much to explore nearby. Devil’s Lake State Park, Mirror Lake State Park, the Baraboo River, Parfrey’s Glen, and Pewit’s Nest are just a few of the incredible natural areas that draw visitors to this part of Wisconsin. These destinations offer opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and biking.
In addition to the incredible outdoor recreation, the Baraboo area also offers a vibrant local food and shopping scene. Just down the road from the campground, you’ll find favorites like Tumbled Rock Brewery & Kitchen and Balanced Rock Winery, both located less than a mile away. A short drive brings you to historic Downtown Baraboo, where you can stroll the charming square filled with delicious eateries, cozy coffee shops, unique boutiques, and locally owned shops. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon exploring.
If you’re looking for even more adventure, Wisconsin Dells and all of its attractions are just a short 15-minute drive away.
We feel incredibly fortunate to raise our family here and to share this special place with our campers. Thank you for being part of the Skillet Creek community.
