In 2021, we bought a campground called Wheeler’s Campground and renamed it to Skillet Creek Campground. We, Chris & Lea Ann Gieck, had been seasonal campers at this campground for 9 years and bought this beautiful piece of property in April 2021. We decided to rename the campground to Skillet Creek Campground to pay homage to the history of the property. Prior to the name Wheeler’s Campground, the business used to be called Skillet Creek Camping Resort.

The campground sits on 70 acres of beautiful wooded and green areas. Skillet Creek runs through the property, along with a fishing pond and wooded hiking trail. We have maintained this natural beauty and added some fun amenities and weekend activities for families. We’ve also added a 1 acre swimming pond which has proven to be a major hit along with rental cabins and additional full hook up sites.

We are looking forward to the new addition of a multipurpose building called the Skillet Creek Canteen which will be open for use starting Memorial Day Weekend (and perhaps before) of 2024. This building will be located next to the swim pond and consists of a pavilion space, a concession area and 3 bathrooms. We are committed to continue to maintain and improve this beautiful piece of land for all of our campers to enjoy and make lasting memories.

Beyond the campground, we absolutely love the Baraboo area as there is so much to do here. Devil’s Lake State Park, Mirror Lake State Park, the Baraboo River, Parfey’s Glen and Pewit’s Nest are just a handful of the natural areas in this part of the state that have drawn us and others in. These natural areas have hiking, rock climbing, boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and biking opportunities.

In addition to all the outdoor activities available, we have loved spending time at some of the local dining establishments. Tumbled Rock Brewery & Kitchen and Balanced Rock Winery are some of our new favorites and less than 1 mile from our campground. Some other fun things to do include Circus World, The Al Ringling Mansion and Brewery. Lastly, Wisconsin Dells and all its attractions are only 15 minutes away.

We are eager to continue the legacy of this campground along with our two daughters and our newest member of the family, our son born in December 2022! We are excited for this season of camping and can’t wait to continue this journey.
